Make-Up Air Systems
Commercial & Industrial
Fresh Air Solutions Designed for Performance, Comfort & Energy Efficiency
Michigan Mechanical Systems provides engineered make-up air systems for commercial, industrial, manufacturing, warehouse, institutional, and specialty facilities throughout Michigan and across North America. Our experienced mechanical engineers design and specify make-up air equipment that restores building pressure, improves indoor air quality, and delivers reliable performance while maximizing energy efficiency.
Whether you're replacing an aging unit, designing a new facility, or upgrading an existing HVAC system, we provide complete engineering support, equipment selection, and technical expertise for projects of every size.
Complete Make-Up Air System Design & Engineering
Every building is different. That's why Michigan Mechanical Systems provides complete system engineering instead of simply selling equipment.
Our design services include:
Airflow Analysis
We calculate required replacement air based on exhaust volumes, occupancy, and building use.
Equipment Selection
We'll recommend properly sized make-up air units based on:
- Airflow (CFM)
- Heating Capacity
- Fuel Source
- Cooling Requirements
- Filtration
- Controls
- Building Layout
Mechanical System Integration
We ensure the make-up air equipment works seamlessly with:
- Exhaust Fans
- Supply Fans
- Radiant Heating Systems
- Unit Heaters
- DOAS Systems
- Building Automation Systems (BAS)

What Is a Make-Up Air System?
A make-up air system (MUA) replaces the air removed from a building by exhaust fans, dust collection systems, paint booths, commercial kitchens, manufacturing processes, or industrial ventilation equipment. Without replacement air, buildings can experience negative pressure, creating drafts, uncomfortable working conditions, equipment performance issues, and increased energy consumption.
Modern make-up air units introduce filtered outdoor air while heating, cooling, or tempering it before distribution throughout the building. The result is a healthier, safer, and more comfortable indoor environment.
